Types of Swimming Lesson we offer
Castle Bromwich Otters offers 4 types of classes. Classes are sorted by age and ability. We will move a talented 4 year old forward a class to be with older children and less confident children can stay in the smaller pool. Please speak to Sonia or Liz to help place your child in the correct class for their age and level. Allocation to classes is on a first come first paid basis.
Parent and Baby 4 months-3 years
This is the class for children aged 4 months to 3 years. Mum/Dad or any other carer adult goes in the pool with the child.
This class aims to promote confidence and fun in the water using music and toys. It uses the ASA "Swim-a-Song" program alongside the Starfish Badge Scheme.
Preschool 3 years +
These lessons foster an understanding of poolside and water safety whilst learning the fundamentals of swimming strokes. Children are in the water alongside quailified instructors in very small groups. We follow the STA badge scheme - Stanley's First Steps.
First Steps in Swimming 4 years +
These lessons build on the Preschool classes but focuses on developing strokes and stamina. Instructors are in the water with the children helping them to focus on their stroke and positioning in the water.
These lessons build on the First Steps and are for confident and capable swimmers. The focus is on stroke enhancement, stamina training and personal survival.

Due to popular demand CBO have introduced adult swimming lessons. These are available beginners and advanced swimmers. The beginners lesson focuses on learning basic strokes and building confidence in the water. The advanced lesson focuses on perfecting stroke and breathing technique. Spaces are limited.
Lessons are located at either St Mary's & St Margarets CofE Primary School or Smiths Wood School.
